Why I switched to period underwear

Yes you read that right, today I wanna talk to you about period underwear. (*Skip to the end for a sweet promo code)

If you follow me on Instagram, then you've seen me talk about Viita underwear. I was gifted a set in May of 2019 and have been using them ever since. I have not purchased a single feminine hygiene product since then. It has truly been great. I always get a lot of questions and trust me, I had a lot too, so let me clear things up for you by addressing some FAQs:

Do they leak? If you are wearing the right pair on the right day for your flow, they shouldn't leak. Some pairs can hold up to 3 tampons worth. You can always bring a second pair along with you for the day, in their little pouches (pictured on the left) to change if you need.

Do they feel weird? The first time I tried them on it felt a little weird, especially the one for the heaviest flow because naturally the lining is thicker, but I quickly got used to them and they feel like regular underwear now. I thought it would be weird to bleed into my underwear, but I actually find it 10 times more comfortable than pads.

Do they smell? Not at all :)

Are they cute? Totally. The Viita ones are super cute, come in a variety of designs and colors and they even have a bodysuit version!

3 Reasons I love them!

If you're not convinced yet, here are some of the reasons I love them so much:

  • I save money: It's no secret that tampons and sanitary pads are quite expensive, it can easily cost you $15-$20 a month. It's estimated that women spend around $60 a year on tampons and pads, but I personally think it's higher, because I definitely spent more than that! Viita underwear last for 100 washes and I use them once a month each because I have enough for my whole period, meaning I wash them 12 times a year, so theoretically these should last 8 years. 8 years of tampons and pads is hundreds of dollars and you can get a cycle set from Viita for only $120 with my promo code (SARAH20).

  • I help the planet: Not only is it better for your wallet, but it's WAY better for the planet. You will significantly reduce your waste of single-use feminine hygiene products. In one lifetime, the plastic waste produced from pads, liners and tampons is approximately 62,415 pounds!!

  • They really work: Like I said, I haven't used anything else for my periods in almost a year. These underwear are the only thing I wear/use for my period and I am so happy about it. I feel good in them and I feel good knowing I'm helping reduce my environmental footprint at the same time, while supporting a female entrepreneur and local company.
