Hey guys,
Fashion month is in full swing so it's about time I rounded up my New York Fashion Week experience! This was my 3rd NYFW, every one of them different from the last but this one was particularly special on a personal level.
If you follow me on Instagram (@sarahostiguy) you know what I'm talking about.
I met my idol. (If you know this story, feel free to skip to the shows below)
Ever since joining Instagram and starting my blog, I've had a lot of inspirations along the way: Aimee Song, Marianna Hewitt, Tezza and none other than Negin Mirsalehi. Negin was always my top gal, the one I looked up to the most.
The week leading up to NYFW, Negin won Influencer of the Year at the Daily Front Row x Revolve awards and her speech left me very emotional. It was late when I listened to it, maybe midnight (and I always get more emotional when I'm tired). I took my emotions to Instagram and shared a story about how I felt. About 5 minutes later, she reposted it and I died a little. I woke up to dozens of girls sharing my story on their Instagram and I was speechless.
I found out that Negin was holding a meet and greet during NYFW so I knew I just had to be there. I rushed over there that Saturday, and waited in line to meet her. And then I met her. I told her I was the girl who shared the sentimental story and she was so happy to meet me that she even talked about me in her vlog.
To me, this is absolutely surreal. I come from a town of 18,000 people an hour outside of Montreal. I cannot believe that out of all the people in the world, this little gal right here from the country side, got to have this experience (alongside maybe a hundred other girls but still!).
I still cannot believe I get to have the life I have and that I get to go to New York Fashion Week and work with brands I admire. The world feels so big and we all feel so small. A lot of what we want to achieve seems so impossible. But that day, I felt like things became accessible.
The older I get, the more I believe that life is truly unpredictable and we never know what's around the corner for those who simply put themselves out there. I know to some this may not be a big deal, but to me, meeting the people I look up means seeing that they are somehow just like us. Meeting them, talking to them, makes it feel like somehow, some way, I can achieve those things too. If they can do it, maybe I can too.
